I have owned and raised Irish Setters for several years. I had my first Irish, called Jiggs, when I was two years old. Actually, Irish Setters are a 90-year old family tradition - both my parents and grandparents owned them as family pets and hunting companions. Since coming to Canada from the United States in the late 1960s, I have had eight Irish - Scarlett, Jiggs 2, Scootie (their mother when a senior citizen), Kiersey, Callahan, Kate, Rosie, and Lindy. Callahan, Kiersey, and Lindy live with me on acreage near Ottawa Canada. Kate and Rose both wanted to be in charge of their own humans, so are now the “boss girl dogs” in their own homes, although we see or hear from them often. Jiggs 2, Scarlett, and Scootie are gone now; they and other Irish we've lost are remembered in a special section on this website.
Carannagh Kennel Reg'd is committed to breeding sound, loving Irish Setters for family, conformation, obedience, field, agility - and just plain fun. Breeding stock is genetically clear of PRA, has good to excellent hips, and is CERF cleared. Puppies and adult dogs are raised and live in the home. At night, Cally and Kiersey take up a good portion of my bed! Older puppies and adult dogs are exposed to as many “dog activities” as their interests and time permits - including daily off-leash runs, obedience, agility, and hunting practices.
Thank you to Mike O'Brien and Daniel Nephin for their technical and creative help with the website. A very special thanks to Mark Raycroft who has given me permission to use his wonderful photos of my dogs - please respect his fine work and copyright.
