HUNTING

Although I do not actually hunt with my dogs, I believe they should carry the traits for which they were originally bred - to hunt and point upland game birds. At least one parent of each litter has the proven hunting instincts appropriate to Irish setters. You should see how their red coats just light up from within when hunting -- there is nothing more beautiful!

Callahan and Lindy have their Field Dog Junior (FDJ) titles. Redford completed his FDJ in August 2005, following in his father Callahan’s footsteps with all three titles – Canadian Champion, Companion Dog and Field Dog Junior. We have hopes that Lindy will be the third Carannagh dog with these three titles when she completes her CD. Grandmother Kiersey was recognized at a local field fun day as having the most potential in the field of the setters at the event near Ottawa (2002). Rose and her son Shayne, who lives with Carole Champion, also have good noses and are very birdy. But there just isn't enough time!

Carannagh Fionntan (pronounced: Fintan) shows his ability to point. Too bad it's deer remains. Not usually the recommended game for an Irish Setter! It does show the breed's hunting versatility, though. Fionntan is Lindy's brother and son of Kyla and Matt. Fin is very smart and has been well trained by his owner, Marlon Hagerty. He knows the names of all his toys, which chairs he can/cannot sit on and lots of other things - not that he doesn't try to get away with stuff (typical Irish).
