OBEDIENCE

Callahan and his son Redford have done very well in the first level of obedience. And, my beloved Jiggs did his CD at nearly 11 years old. All my Irish have taken obedience classes, and are completely reliable about coming when called. Ms Lindy is expected to pursue her CD after her puppies grow up a bit. Many thanks to Art Newman (All Dogs Sports Club, Ottawa) for his generous help and constant good wishes in obedience over the years.

Anne and Cally-High in Class

Cally finished his CD in three straight shows, plus one more for good measure. He received scores of 191.5,192.5 and 193.5 (twice)-one High in Class, a 2nd and two thirds against dogs handled and owned by two top handler-judges.

Callahan and Anne were also selected to compete in the Shurgain Biathlon at Belleville Ontario, where he was the youngest dog to compete among several very experienced obedience champions, including three of the top ten obedience dogs in Canada in 1998-99.

After taking time out to get his first hunting title and to be a father twice (not too hard work, that!) Callahan and Anne joined an Ottawa-area dog drill-team (similar to the RCMP Musical Ride) which did demonstrations for charity for a time (2001-03).

Redford completed his CD with three first place wins and scores of 191.5, 193, and 193.5 at Valley near Kingston, Ontario - with no failed trials at all! He was shown under respected obedience judges Michael Calhoun and Michelle Armitage (pictured). Redford is the second generation of the Carannagh line and the third dog in the Perkins household to get his CD. He is a chip off the old block (actually, Cally failed a few trials before he finished...). His owner, Mike Burke, is currently working with him toward his CDX.

Redford - a new CD

Jiggs (1988-2000) - his first CD leg at Kingston

Jiggs wanted so badly to go to the shows with Keirsey and Cally - so he did his obedience title at the age of 10 years and 8 months! He competed under three different judges, at both indoor and outdoor trials. He placed each time and received the Irish Setter prize at Cornwall.
